Have
you ever stood in front of your closet holding
a skirt and jacket, or sweater and blouse trying
to decide if they match? In the same way that
it is not always clear if two pieces work together,
its sometimes hard to know if our clothes work
with our personality and lifestyle.
One way to solve this dilemma is to determine
your clothing personality. In this issue,
we offer some ideas to help you create a wardrobe
that suits your needs, taste, personality and
lifestyle. But, even with the best advice, we
sometimes need more help. That's why Design
with Joy has added some
new
services to help women identify the clothes
that fit their body, personality and profession.
I will come to your home and together make a wardrobe
plan that will result in a closet full of clothes
that are just right for you.
Our new services include Clothing Personality
Profile (see details below), Personal Business
Casual Clothing Profile and Your Style 101 Basic
Clothing Profile.

CREATE
YOUR CLOTHING PERSONALITY PROFILE
|
|
One of the easiest way to introduce
yourself to your style is to go your
closet and take a "wardrobe
tour."
Look
through your clothes and take special
note of your favorites. Take time
to analyze what you wear, and what
you like, then answer the following
questions. This process will help
your determine what you have been
trying to tell yourself about your
clothing personality.
What
colors do you see? Are
you clothes all black? Do you wear
brights or pastels; earth tones or
water colors, soft and muted, dark
and intense, or strong and bold? Do
you like the colors you see?
What
types of fabrics do you like?
Are you cold all the time, or too
warm? Are you most comfortable in
natural fibers? Do you choose your
clothes with ease of care in mind?
Do you love silk and cashmere, denim
and nubby wool, or easy care synthetics?
Do
you see designs in the fabric?
Are you drawn to prints or patterns,
florals or geometrics. Do you wear
solid colors only? What textures do
you like? Do you love soft and cozy,
or crisp and defined? Do you like
tweeds or plaids, knits or lace? Do
your clothes feel good ?
What
styles do you see? Are
your clothes formal or casual. classic
or cutting edge? Do they have a lot
of design details or just a few? Do
you wear pants, or do you prefer skirts
or dresses? Do you prefer to look
simple and elegant, or up to the minute?
Do you clothes
fit your lifestyle? Do they look like
your image of your best self?
When
choosing your clothes, we beleive
the goal should be to create a look
that fits and compliments your personality.
When this happens, you feel natural
and right.
Read on for ideas
to help you match your wardrobe to
your personality.

What
did you notice about your clothes on your 'wardrobe
tour'?
Do
your clothes 'look like you?' If not, you may
want to create a 'clothing personality profile'
to help you define the look and style that suits
you best.
To
help you determine this, use a sheet of paper
to write down the answers to the questions on
the left. Add a few lines to describe your lifestyle,
age, activities and preferences. Also consider
you personality and lifestyle.
Are you conservative by nature, or shy? Do you
like to be noticed - but not too much? Are you
creative? Does your job demand a specific style
of dress?
Think about your favorite clothes. What makes
them special? Is it the color, the fabric, the
fit, the style, or simply the way they makes you
feel?
Also,
notice the clothes you like the least. What do
you dislike - for example, I love the fabric
but the color makes me look washed out, or
this collar makes my neck look short. Add
your dislikes to your profile as well.
The more details that you add to your profile,
the easier it will be to understand and select
the clothes that suit you best.
Once you have created your profile,
its time to look at clothes - through your new,
better informed eyes.
You might start by window shopping
at a few of your favorite stores and/or look at
a few of your favorite fashion magazines. If you
don't have a favorite fashion magazine, visit
the library to find a few that seem attractive
to you.
Look for styles, colors, fabrics and looks that
make you say this is ME!
Then once again, analyze what draws you
to the item. Before you know it, shopping will
get easier, and your wardrobe will do what its
meant to do, bring out the best in you.
